British Empire Medal for Shoreham Red Cross leader
The Red Cross manager who led the response to the Shoreham air disaster has been awarded a medal in the New Year's honours list.
Richard Tyler told 5 Live that when he first arrived on the scene it was incredibly quiet, "there was no screaming, no shouting, it was bizarre" he says.
He says that many other people deserve to share in his award, "the ambulance crews, all the volunteers, I was the only member of paid staff there and without them I can't do the job, they are all heroes".
