Brit plans to become first man to swim the Atlantic

A father is planning to become the first man in the world to swim the Atlantic and is hoping to raise £1 million for charity.

His swim will take him from Senegal to Northern Brazil across the open Mid-south Atlantic, which is about two thousand miles

Ben Hooper was due to set off tomorrow, but has had to put his departure off because of bad weather.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 live spoke to the swimmer about how he will tackle the shark and jellyfish infested waters.

He said: "My wet suit, it’s got the Australian painted University of Perth shark camouflage on it. The idea of it is that it will disrupt the sharks. If that doesn’t work, the next line of defence is the electric shark shields. They create sort of a 12 meter electric field".
