A doctor who helped treat injured passengers on a flight hit by severe turbulence has told 5 live 鈥減eople were literally thrown from their seats鈥� during the incident.

Dr Suzanne Caudry, who was on the Canada-bound airliner when it was forced to make an emergency landing, said 鈥減eople hit the ceiling and there was a lot of debris being thrown around鈥� it was a miracle more people weren鈥檛 injured鈥�.

21 people on the plane were injured, 13 of whom were taken to hospital for observation.

The Air Canada flight carrying 332 passengers from Shanghai to Toronto was diverted to Calgary last night after the turbulence hit.
