Digger used as mourners locked out at veteran's funeral
A digger had to be used to force open a chapel's door for a funeral when an employee failed to turn up with the keys.
Around seventy mourners were locked out for forty minutes in the cold at Mexborough Cemetery in Doncaster for the funeral of Royal Navy veteran Douglas Barratt.
Granddaughter Sam Hodkin says although it was a "really sad" situation "the undertaker was absolutely fantastic" and deserved a medal for opening the chapel's doors.
She told 5 live that knowing the kind of character her grandad was, she believes "he would've laughed about it".
Doncaster Council spokesman, Dave Wilkinson said the council was "very sorry" and will be "learning lessons so this does not happen again".
