How did Tim Peake learn to spacewalk?
Herve Stevening of the European Space Agency has revealed the training Tim Peake went through to become the first official British astronaut to walk in space.
The astronaut's mission is to replace a faulty component and lay cables outside the International Space Station.
From the European Astronaut Centre in Germany, 5 live's Stephen Chittenden spoke to Mr Stevening, who is the ESA's spacewalk instructor for European astronauts and leads the team that develops and implements spacewalk training.
A replica of the International Space Station is used to help astronauts develop the skills required to spacewalk, which is at the bottom of a 10 metre swimming pool that Stevening said is "the closest you can get to being in space".
