Is it a plane? Is it a bird?
An owl expert has told 5 live that it’s “amazing” that two in five primary school children have never seen an owl in real life.
Carol Rose, who works for Wild Wings Birds of Prey and brought Nova the barn owl along to the studio, said she takes the animals into schools and many children “don’t even know what type of bird they are and have never seen them in the wild”.
A survey out this week has also discovered that one in four children have can’t identify a blackbird or a robin red breast and more than half of six to ten year olds are unable to name some of the most common garden birds including great tits, chaffinches and starlings.
