Lawrenson: Liverpool are protecting themselves
Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson says the club had to agree a new contract with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet because "he's the best they've got".
The new five-year deal will see the Belgium international at Anfield until the end of the 2020-21 season.
However, Lawrenson says that could change if the Reds sign a new keeper in the summer.
He said: "It's him against the new guy and then we wait and see - but by giving him a new contract Liverpool are protecting themselves."
