    Coole, Co. Westmeath: Maurice Dease VC
The small village of Coole in Co. Westmeath is the birthplace of Maurice Dease, who was the first posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross in the Great War. His family had lived in the Coole area for over 800 years playing a large part in both the social and political life of the area. Local historians Danny Tiernan and Ruth Illingworth tell the story of this remarkable young hero.
