New Yorkers swap cars for skis as heavy snow hits city
New Yorkers have swapped cars for skis as a travel ban hit the Big Apple. The city's Mayor Bill De Blasio imposed it as the city headed for record snowfall.
Chris Brightwell from Weybridge in Surrey was stuck there after flying out for work with more than 50 colleagues - and said it was eerily silent, "It's deadly quiet because obviously no traffic," but he spotted city-dwellers using the unusual method of transport:
"Yeah, I got a couple of pictures of people skiing through Times Square this afternoon."
And although Chris and his colleagues' flight home was delayed because of the winter storm, he said they're making the most of it:
"We're having a right scream. Massive snowball fight in Times Square was hilarious."
