How Springsteen became The Boss, by the boss
In an exclusive ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Arts online clip, to tie into ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Four's Music Moguls series, manager Jon Landau explains his role in helping Bruce Springsteen break into the big time.
Landau explains how he came on board when Springsteen was still struggling for mainstream success and helped chart a path that took the singer from small venues to nation-wide stadium tours.
In a masterstroke, Landau persuaded the reluctant Springsteen to write one last song – a radio-friendly crowd-pleaser. With film director Brian de Palma producing an iconic video – thanks to a little help from the yet-to-be-famous Courtney Cox – Dancing in the Dark was a huge hit and cemented Springsteen’s status as an international superstar. Springsteen had truly become The Boss.
