Sailors rescued by RNLI for ninth time
A sailor whose boat has had to be rescued by the RNLI nine times in seven months has told 5 live he doesn’t feel that his actions are “putting anyone at risk”.
The latest call to the emergency services was made when the boat tipped over in Hayle Harbour in West Cornwall, causing a small fire on board.
American Steve Shapiro, who is part of the two man crew of the Nora, said he got his sailing qualifications “last year” so he feels “very comfortable” that he’s skilled enough to sail to North America.
The crewmen, who are both 71, left Norway in July 2015 and are hoping to sail across the Atlantic.
