Blogger: Why I flew to Berlin to save on Essex train fare
A teenage consumer blogger has discovered that it is cheaper to travel home to Essex from Sheffield via Berlin than to take the train.
Jordon Cox, 18, was in Sheffield for a lecture and found a one-way train ticket home would cost £47.
He opted instead to fly through a budget airline from East Midlands Airport to Berlin and then fly from Berlin to Stansted. It saved the teen £8 in total.
The frugal teen told 5 live's Peter Allen: "It just shows you how extortionate train prices are becoming, the fact you can fly however many thousand miles more and still save money and still will be cheaper.”
