Scientist: Why earth is actually two planets

Planet earth is actually made up of two planets, scientists have concluded.

Edward Young and his team at the University of California said for years it was believed "the moon was formed by a giant impact between two planets".

But their research has proved that 4.5 billion years ago, the early planet Earth collided with a baby planet called Theia. The impact melded the earth and Theia together, and a chunk of the planet created the moon.

Young explained how he proved this: "We've now found that the Earth and the moon have exactly the same oxygen isotopes while everything else in the universe has different isotopes."
