Have you ever pulled a sickie? You’re not alone…
An analyst has told 5 live that workers often “exaggerate” illness to get time off work. He made his comments after it was revealed today is the day of the year where the most people pull a sickie.
Will Dahlgreen, who works for YouGov, looked into sickies and discovered that 19% of people, which would equate to 6 million workers lying to take a day off last year.
He went on to say that it is worse amongst young people, with 28% happy to call in sick. The survey revealed the real reasons that an estimated 375,000 British workers call in sick range from job interviews to being too hungover.
It is estimated that sickies are costing the British economy £34 billion a year, according to figures from business advisory firm ELAS.
