A former armed robber tells Phil how his life was changed by a rowing machine in prison.
John McAvoy was brought up in South London amongst a family where guns were the norm. His uncle was one of the Brinks Mat bullion robbers which in November 1983 saw a record 拢26 million in gold bullion stolen from Heathrow International trading estate.
John joined the "family business" at just 15.
It would take two stints in prison over a decade for him to have any empathy with his victims and any desire to change his criminal ways.
He told Phil how he was taught from an early age to distrust the police:
