John Grant: Using sex as an escape meant I got HIV
American musician John Grant has said using sex as an escape led to him being diagnosed with HIV, and that his diagnosis was "A big wake up call."
Speaking to 5 live's Afternoon Edition, he said contracting the disease was totally avoidable:
"I thought 'you can't whinge about because this was something that could have been avoided'. There's millions of children in Africa who don't get the choice whether to go out and cruise bars and have unprotected sex and not care about themselves, they're born with HIV".
