Should Pythagoras' Theorem be taught in schools?

A Twitter row has developed between pop star Lily Allen and Education Minister Nick Gibb over whether schools should be teaching Pythagoras' Theorem.

But broadcaster and maths enthusiast Johnny Ball has told 5 live that Pythagoras' Theorem is a "discipline you need to learn".

He went on to say that "mathematics underpins everything we do" and it is "essential it should be taught" in schools.
