A love letter from WW1
The Imperial War Museum has published a series of love letters written during the First World War including postcards sent from Alexander Simpson to his wife Maggie Ann shortly before his death in 1916.
Alexander Simpson was serving on the HMS Invincible when it was fired at by two German warships and destroyed during the Battle of Jutland.
His grandson Malcolm Robertson told 5 live's Clare McDonnell, one of the postcards was sent in time for St Valentine's Day 1915.
The opening lines written on the postcard (pictured) read "this girl appears to be very willing don't you think, so how I envy her," in reference to the couple featured kissing on the front of the card.
