Barcelona-style penalty angered Joey Barton
Joey Barton has spoken out about Barcelona's controversial penalty, admitting he found it “incredibly disrespectful” when it happened against him.
Instead of shooting, Lionel Messi passed to Luis Suarez to score in Barcelona’s 6-1 La Liga win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Barton was part of the Manchester City side when Arsenal tried - and failed - to score a similar penalty against them in 2005.
"I remember the lads being incredibly incensed by it - we thought it was incredibly disrespectful," he told Mark Chapman, John Motson and Jonathan Northcroft on 5 live Sport.
"Messi doesn't need to be doing that - he is so much better than that."
