Did brain power save Joel Matip's career?
If it wasn't for the academic success of Liverpool's new signing Joel Matip he "maybe" might never have made it as professional football according to his former Academy coach at Schalke Norbert Elgert.
Elgert explains, "in education he was very good, but not so many people were convinced by his (football) talent, but he improved year after year. He's a good learner, he works very hard, he has a good personality, a good corrector and he's still young".
The Cameroon defender is out of contract in the summer with Liverpool confirming they've agreed a deal for the 24-year old who's made over 200 appearances for Schalke and has 27 caps for Cameroon.
