Is pole dancing a suitable exercise for children?
Is pole dancing ever suitable for eight-year-olds? The question has sparked outrage as well as debate after viewers of ITV show 'This Morning' witnessed three young girls in hot pants and cropped school shirts perform their pole dancing routine live on the show.
Dance instructor Zoe Hardy has told 5 live that if children do it in a “safe environment” then it is no different “to what they do in playgrounds”.
Psychologist Kerry Nixon disagrees, she felt that “pole dancing is inextricably linked to sexuality” and children should not be put in situations where they might be sexualised.
Zoe, who runs Dance Company ‘Pole Intentions’, went on to defend her lessons, saying that the parents of the eight-year-olds are “100% behind their children” and that pole dancing is a discipline which is currently looking to be recognised as an official sport.
