Legal & General to build thousands of 'flat-pack' homes

The boss of insurance giant Legal & General says the company is planning to build thousands of 'flat-pack' homes from a factory in Yorkshire.

Nigel Wilson said the 600,000 sq ft site would be the biggest facility of its kind in the world.

Speaking to Wake Up To Money, Mr Wilson said: “We want to see the manufacturing of housing in the UK fundamentally change … demand for housing is at an all time high, but supply is pathetic.”

“This is another one of our initiatives, to build a manufacturing plant here in the UK producing really economic, environmentally efficient houses and creating a lot of new jobs up in the North,” he added.

Last year L&G said it was committing £600m to building around 3,000 homes for rent.
