11,000 year old pendant 'earliest Mesolithic art'
An eleven thousand year old engraved pendant has been discovered by archaeologists in North Yorkshire.
The artwork on the tiny pendant is the earliest known Mesolithic art in Britain.
Professor Nicky Milner, of the Department of Archaeology at York University, who led the research told 5 live:
"We have never found one of this size with these sorts of engravings on it."
Milner went on to say pendants tend to be found in Denmark and made of amber so "this is a really unique find."
