5 live's Rowan Bridge went out on to the streets of Manchester with charity Coffee 4 Craig, where he spoke to Dan who has been homeless for 4 years.

Dan was a former member of the military, other rough sleepers said their circumstances were due to the break-ups of relationships or having been in prison.

Dan told Rowan he thought sleeping in the "terrible" cold weather could "put you in hospital".

The number of homeless people in England has risen by a third in the last year, according to government figures. It's part of a long term
trend that's seen the number of rough sleepers double in six years.
