A three-year-old girl with cerebral palsy is learning to walk after she received trial surgery on the NHS, but the same treatment has been denied to her twin brother, who has the same condition.
Ava Elbourne, from Hull, underwent the life changing operation last month, but her parents Emma and Phil Elbourne, need to raise seventy-thousand pounds to secure the same procedure for twin, Louie, in America.
Emma said "not a day goes by that Louie doesn't ask - can I walk, can I kneel?"
She said "when [Ava] walked for the first time, it was a dream come true".
Dad Phil said “It’s not a really simple case, Louie’s cerebral palsy is more extensive […] We knew it was a pilot, but it was still a shock […] We understand that the operation in the UK was on a trial basis, which the funding has finished for. We’re really grateful that we managed to catch the boat for Ava […] We’ve had so much from the NHS, they’ve been there every step of the way, but at the same time you still hope that your son might get the same treatment”.
