How virtual reality could help heroin addicts
A virtual reality "heroin cave" could help addicts kick their habit.
A new study at the University of Houston will have addicts strap on virtual reality headsets to see how they deal with their addiction in "real life" situations.
Dr Patrick Bordnick says the virtual environment is "highly realistic" and includes avatars which interact and engage with the user, inviting them to use drugs.
He said a therapist will observe the user, "talk them through it", and give them the opportunity to practice coping strategies.
