Is Clean for the Queen patronising?

Keep Britain Tidy has launched the UK's largest ever litter picking campaign, designed to get the country looking its best for Her Majesty's 90th birthday on the 21st of April.

The project has won the support of Government ministers, two-hundred councils and some big high street names, but some people have criticised the it social media because they believe it's patronising.

Writer and author Laurie Penny said, "It's class warfare. It's the idea that people have to go out and do for free what people were previously paid to do".

Others including the journalist Toby Young, have leapt to its defence: "It's not patronising - it's an excuse to encourage people to go out and pick up litter," he told 5 live.
