My autistic son thinks he’s serving prison sentence
An autistic teenager is being kept in a residential psychiatric intensive care unit, which his parents say is unable to provide the treatment programme he requires.
Matthew Garnett, 15, has a range of mental health problems including autism, ADHD and learning difficulties.
His mother Isabelle told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 live Daily’s Sam Walker that his current care unit is not an appropriate place to treat her son, and that he also feels like he's in prison after spending six months in a locked mental health ward.
She said: “There are inexpensive things, that would have made a massive difference to us and to others in our situation. Transparent communication, clear pathways and protocols."
