Shearer: Newcastle need more 'characters & leaders'
Alan Shearer criticises Newcastle United's recent record in the Premier League. Shearer, 45, has also questioned the lack of 'leaders' in the current team.
The former Newcastle striker who still holds the record for the number of Premier League goals bemoaned Steve McLaren's side. He said: "To score seven goals away from home is embarrassing, it's the lowest in all of the leagues."
But Shearer does not believe the club's form is down to a lack of quality in the side. He added: "I see a lot of ability in the team but when you're in the position that Newcastle are in, ability is nowhere near enough. You need characters and leaders."
