The founder of Motown Berry Gordy has written a musical about his life, also called Motown, which charts the rise of one of the most successful record labels in history.

The founder of Motown Berry Gordy has written a musical about his life, also called Motown, which charts the rise of one of the most successful record labels in history.

Berry Gordy, now 84, built the careers of singers including Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye.

"Diana Ross was one of the greatest performers I have ever seen, and I felt like if she listened to me I would guide her in the right way, which she did," Mr Gordy said to arts correspondent Rebecca Jones.
