McDonnell: 'Labour is mainstream'
Labour is now "mainstream" with support across a broad political spectrum, shadow chancellor John McDonnell has told the Today programme.
McDonnell's comments followed his announcement yesterday that a future Labour government would control public spending through a "fiscal credibility" lock.
"If you've got the support of that broad spectrum from the left to the right, from the Communist Party Morning Star right across to the CBI, you must be doing something right," he said.
"In other words, we're now mainstream with common sense policies and I'm restoring the credibility, not just of the Labour party, but I think of economic debate and policy in this country."
