Timeshare owner: ‘I was conned out of £170,000’
A timeshare owner lost £170,000 after he was cold-called by scammers from ‘Avon Client Services’ and ‘Sun Property Solutions', who claimed they could help him get out of his timeshare contract.
The fraudsters claimed they had buyers waiting, and said they could help the man recover some of the money he had lost in previous attempts to sell his timeshare.
They pretended he was being represented in a Spanish court case, and invoiced him for legal fees and taxes, persuading him to hand over more and more money.
Police uncovered a network of bank accounts used to launder the funds and false addresses for the bogus companies.
In February ten people were convicted over the scam. In total they had conned more than £1million pounds from their victims, with one woman losing over a quarter of a million pounds.
