Farewell to Max: a life in music

Tributes have been paid to the distinguished British composer, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Max, as he was known, was renowned for his prolific output - which ranged from symphonies and concertos to opera, choral works, ballet, and film. Though born in England, much of his inspiration came from the Orkney Islands, north of the Scottish mainland. He set up home there and started the St Magnus Festival which became one of the most important music events in Britain's calendar. Leslie Burgher is currently chair of the festival and described what Max was like.
