'Embarrassed' woman: I was refused alcohol over self-harm scars
Becci Wain was refused alcohol in Tesco when the shop assistant saw self-harm scars on her arm.
The 21-year-old was buying a bottle of champagne for a friend's birthday when the shop assistant told her that it was "Tesco policy" not to serve customers with scars on their arms.
"I wanted the ground to swallow me up", she told 5 live's Sarah Brett.
"I understand the Tesco employee was probably just looking out for me and thinking she was doing the right thing, but the sensitivity in how you go about it, that's important".
A Tesco spokesperson said, "all our store colleagues are trained in the responsible selling of alcohol, but we recognise an error has been made in this instance. We're pleased Ms Wain has accepted our apology and will continue to shop with us."
