
MEP Richard Howitt: 'Democracy must always win'
Labour MEP Richard Howitt has told 5 live Breakfast that "democracy must always win", stating that European Parliament proceedings will "carry on as usual" despite a series of explosions in Brussels.
Speaking to Nicky Campbell he said he had been at Maelbeek station "minutes before" the explosion had gone off.
He said that European Parliament is in lockdown and "the people inside are safe".
The Belgian prime minister says the explosions at Zaventerm airport and Maelbek station have killed or wounded "scores" of people.
