How do hospitals cope with a terrorist attack?
A hospital director has told 5 live every bed “was full” when his team received 93 patients with injuries sustained in the Brussels attacks.
Dr Guy Borgers, director of the Queen Astrid military hospital in Brussels, said the medical staff were prepared for casualties as they have ready-made facilities with 40 beds ready to go “in case of a catastrophe”.
Of the 93 patients the hospital received, 75 have either gone home or have been transferred to other medical facilities, while 18 are still in the hospital's burns centre.
