RAF crew survive 11 days at sea using pants as fishing nets
The family of an RAF flight officer relive their father's tale of survival. Eric Hartley's Halifax bomber was shot down in the Bay of Biscay in 1943.
He and five crewman survived in a dinghy for 11 days, to survive they turned their shirts into sails and fished with their underpants, catching only jellyfish.
He detailed their struggles in a diary, which ended in them being picked up 11 days later by a Royal Navy destroyer.
