What makes a great theme tune?
Few people who grew up in the 1960s could not now - fifty years on - hum you the tunes from The Avengers, Blue Peter, Grandstand, The Saint, University Challenge, Panorama, The Onedin Line, Tomorrow's World, Dad's Army, Sportsnight - the list goes on and on. The melodies became so iconic that those shows which survived into the 21st century have never ditched the theme music familiar to generations of viewers. Rich Morton explores the great theme tunes through the eras and talks to Wolf Hall composer Debbie Wiseman about what makes a fantastic theme tune.
