Archers fan raises £92k for charity after abuse storyline
The Archers has taken a very unusual turn after reaching the climax of its controversial domestic abuse storyline involving Helen Titchener and her husband Rob.
Rather than hearing about the usual village life, fans of the Radio 4 drama felt "disturbed" after Helen, who's pregnant, stabbed her abusive husband Rob. He appeared to have been killed, but was later revealed to have survived the attack.
The storyline has prompted a Helen Titchener Fund, set up by a listener to raise money for domestic violence charity, Refuge.
Paul Trueman, who has so far raised over £90,000, said: "People often joke that Archers' listeners forget that they're not real. I thought if she [Helen] was real, we could raise money for her."
