Neurosurgeon: Blackwell 'benefited' from Watson injury

A neurosurgeon says the treatment given to Nick Blackwell for a head injury suffered against Chris Eubank Junior was "more polished" than that given to Michael Watson in 1991.

Peter Hamlyn operated on Watson after he suffered a brain injury in a fight with Eubank Senior.

Blackwell, he says, "was placed into an induced coma rapidly. He had the right doctors and medics around him who had the right training and facilities to sort him out so the outcome has been better."

Peter admits ethical issues remain, but added, "I think Nick Blackwell has benefited from the events that surrounded Michael Watson and Chris Eubank Senior."
