What's behind the conflict in Nagorna Karabakh?

After 4 days of fierce fighting, a ceasefire has been agreed between Azerbaijan and the ethnically-Armenian authorities who control the separatist region. There had been concern that the flare up could lead to a resumption of all-out war in the disputed enclave. The former Soviet states of Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a six-year war over the territory in which thousands were killed and displaced on both sides. The war ended with a fragile truce in 1994, since when there's been only sporadic violence. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Rayhan Demytrie explains the history of the territory and the violence that afflicts it.
