World Cup winner Matt Dawson says former England coach Stuart Lancaster may have regrets over selecting rugby league convert Sam Burgess in the Rugby World Cup squad.

After switching codes, Burgess was fast-tracked into the squad for the tournament before returning to South Sydney Rabbitohs following England鈥檚 pool stage exit.

Lancaster says he may have made 鈥榙ifferent decisions鈥� had he known Burgess would return to rugby league and Dawson says he may still hold regrets.

鈥淪tuart Lancaster is maybe just carrying a bit of guilt over that whole selection as it didn鈥檛 go as well as people thought,鈥� he said.

鈥淚 want someone to be accountable for that (Burgess selection),鈥� Dawson added.
