Dawson: Lancaster may have ‘guilt’ over Burgess selection
World Cup winner Matt Dawson says former England coach Stuart Lancaster may have regrets over selecting rugby league convert Sam Burgess in the Rugby World Cup squad.
After switching codes, Burgess was fast-tracked into the squad for the tournament before returning to South Sydney Rabbitohs following England’s pool stage exit.
Lancaster says he may have made ‘different decisions’ had he known Burgess would return to rugby league and Dawson says he may still hold regrets.
“Stuart Lancaster is maybe just carrying a bit of guilt over that whole selection as it didn’t go as well as people thought,” he said.
“I want someone to be accountable for that (Burgess selection),” Dawson added.
