LGBT laws in US a reaction to gay marriage?

The Canadian rock star, Bryan Adams, has cancelled a concert in the US state of Mississippi in protest at a new law that allows businesses and organisations to refuse services to gay people.

Last week, Bruce Springsteen made a similar stand in North Carolina in protest at the state's so called bathroom law. The legislation requires transgender people to use public toilets corresponding to their gender at birth.

James Coomarasamy reports from state capital Raleigh where North Carolina's Republican governor Pat McCrory has said he is the victim of a smear campaign.
