Two research results show how some diseases manage to overcome the body's defences: how the listeriosis bacteria travels through the placenta from mother to unborn baby; and how prion diseases, such as BSE and CJD, are made to jump species in the laboratory.
The evidence for dark matter and for the WIMP, the weakly interacting massive particle. How the human and animal brain excels at picking out exactly what it needs to hear from a whole wall of sound – "You have to to chat to all your other fellow monkeys and then you still have to hear when the tigers come."
