Inspector of Prisons: Inmate asked me to help kill rats
Rat infested and overcrowded are some of the damning findings of Prison Inspectors on the state of Wormwood Scrubs.
The report has found that some prisoners are too frightened to leave their cells and the Prison Reform Trust said the jail had Dickensian levels of squalor.
The Chief Inspector of Prisons, Peter Clarke told 5 live Daily's Adrian Chiles that he was asked by a prisoner to provide him with a broom to kill rats.
He said: "A prisoner came up to me and said could you please ask the governor to give me a broom, to kill all these rats. He described to me how he killed one of them with a broom handle, just a few days before."
