Shearer: Newcastle have not learnt from 2009 relegation
Alan Shearer says Newcastle have not learnt from their mistakes in 2009 when the club was relegated from the Premier League.
Head coach Steve McClaren was replaced by Rafael Benitez in March, but Newcastle remain in the relegation zone with four games to play.
Shearer took charge of the club for the final eight games in 2009 and believes they would have avoided relegation had he been appointed sooner.
He said: "I wish I would have had a bit longer because I am convinced it would have been a different outcome. I just hope and pray Newcastle have got enough this time. They should have learnt their lesson from last time and the change should have been made a lot earlier than it has been."
