One of the 19 surviving members of the famous 'Guinea Pig Club' has pledged to create a permanent memorial to the club at the National Arboretum.

The Guinea Pigs were the a group of airmen who suffered terrible injuries in the Second World War and were treated by pioneering plastic surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe.

Sandy Saunders suffered 40 per cent burns when he crashed a biplane in 1945. He's a special guest at the Soldiering On Awards on Friday, an annual ceremony to honour those who help and support servicemen and women.
