Choppers was 'a lovely chimp'

The last remaining original PG tips chimpanzee died earlier this week.

Choppers, who was 48, played Ada in the adverts that were broadcast on TV from the 1950s.

Dr Charlotte MacDonald is Director of Life Sciences at Twycross Zoo which originally trained the chimps, described her as "lovely".

"Choppers was known as one of our peacemakers - she wanted to be friends with everybody".

In 2014, the zoo told the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ the use of apes on television had been wrong and Choppers was "mixed up" as a result.

Although the PG Tips adverts continued using chimps until 2003, Dr MacDonald said Twycross Zoo ended its advertising agreement in 1986 after use of the animals became "frowned upon" in the UK.
