Horrible Histories author: Ban 'dull' Shakespeare in school
Horrible Histories author Terry Deary says Shakespeare should be banned from schools as the way his work is taught is "utterly dull".
On the 400th anniversary of his death, the writer said that William Shakespeare's themes were just as relevant today, but should be enjoyed in the theatre only.
"Having every other word explained for its meaning... was utterly dull", he said. "At 15 they actually took me to see a performance, and it was magical."
"I can remember those performances. I can't remember a single minute of a lesson when it was analysed."
