A family living in Service Families Accommodation experienced a "horrible" situation when a blocked toilet caused human waste to flow through their property and into the kitchen.

Mel who is married to a member of the Royal Navy said it was "disgusting" and left her five year old daughter "in tears". The toilet was not fixed for four days. She said: "We are forces families and they don’t really care about us".

CarrillionAmey work on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to maintain Armed Forces properties, including Mel’s house. Accommodation for service families is currently being re-graded with many seeing rent increases which they regard as unfair, given the poor maintenance record.

CarrillionAmey say they responded to Mel’s problems as quickly as possible. They offered to put her up in a hotel but Mel declined the offer because it came at 2am in the morning.
